The True Reason for Christmas: A Gift Beyond Measure
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As we are in the midst of the season of Christmas, it’s easy to get caught up in the rush of the holidays—decorating our homes, finding the perfect gifts, and planning gatherings with loved ones. But as we pause and reflect, I would like for us to take a moment to turn our hearts back to the reason for this season: the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
The story of Christmas is not just about a baby in a manger. It’s about the fulfillment of God’s promise to redeem humanity, the light piercing the darkness, and the invitation to receive the greatest gift ever given—salvation through Christ Jesus.
The Fulfillment of Prophecy
Long before Jesus’ birth, God spoke through the prophet Isaiah:
“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6, NKJV).
Christmas is the celebration of this prophecy fulfilled. In Luke 2:11, the angel declared to the shepherds:
“For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
This wasn’t just any child. This was Emmanuel, “God with us” (Matthew 1:23). God Himself stepped into our broken world to bring healing, peace, and eternal life.
A Gift Beyond Measure
In our humanity, we often think of Christmas gifts as items wrapped in shiny paper, but the true gift of Christmas is found in John 3:16:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
This gift didn’t come wrapped in gold or silver but in swaddling cloths, laid in a humble manger. It’s a gift that offers us redemption, hope, and a future with Him.
Have you ever stopped to think about the depth of love it took for God to send His Son for us? Romans 5:8 reminds us:
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
This Christmas, let us rejoice in this immeasurable love and remind ourselves and others of the true reason we celebrate.
The Call to Respond
The shepherds’ response to the angel’s announcement gives us a powerful example to follow:
“And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child” (Luke 2:16-17, NKJV).
They didn’t keep the good news to themselves—they shared it! As followers of Christ, we are called to do the same. This Christmas, let’s reflect on how we can share the message of Jesus with those around us, whether it’s through acts of kindness, sharing scripture, or simply living out His love.
A Kingdom Perspective on Christmas
At Forged in Faith and Kingdom Strategies, we believe that Christmas is not just a season but an opportunity to realign our hearts with the Kingdom mindset. It’s a time to remember that we are part of a greater story, one that began in a manger and will culminate with Jesus’ return as King.
Let’s use this season to reflect on the questions:
• Are we living in the light of Christ’s birth and His redemptive work?
• How can we extend His love to others in practical and spiritual ways this season?
A Christmas Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the gift of Jesus Christ, our Savior and King. This Christmas, may our hearts be filled with gratitude for Your love, which knows no bounds. Help us to fix our eyes on the true reason for this season and to share the good news with those around us. Fill our homes with Your peace and our lives with Your purpose. We surrender to Your will and ask for opportunities to shine Your light in a world that desperately needs it. In Jesus’ Holy and Mighty name, we pray, Amen and Amen.
Closing Encouragement
This Christmas, let us celebrate with joy and awe, remembering that the baby born in Bethlehem is the same Savior who conquered the grave. As you gather with loved ones, I pray you are filled with the peace of God and in the wonder of His presence.
From all of us at Forged in Faith and Kingdom Strategies, may your Christmas season be filled with the hope, joy, and the peace of Christ Jesus.
In His Love and Light,
Jeannie Walker
